“At the River | Nearly one hundred years ago, Charles Ives breathed new life into ‘Shall We Gather at the River’, the traditional Protestant hymn, by setting it for piano and voice in his distinct and colorful harmonic language. Following his example of looking to the past while simultaneously innovating and extending to the present, we have made our own interpretation of the hymn. Scored for voices, brass quartet, and piano, we pay homage to both the traditional hymn and Ives’ more radical interpretation.” - Kris Nolte and Ian McLellan Davis, Composers
